Radiant Windmill Days Sponsors: Village of Baldwin & Fireworks City
Baldwin was established in 1871 and was called Clarksville for a short four months in honor of Frank B. Clark, a railroad agent. It was later named Baldwin in honor of D.A. Baldwin, President of the Western Wisconsin Railroad. The Village was incorporated in 1874!
The Windmill, located at Windmill Park, was completed in 1987. The Windmill is a monument to the Village's Dutch heritage - which brings much joy to the residents and guests!
In 2021, the celebration was historical as it was the 150th anniversary of the establishment of Baldwin, WI by D.R. Bailey!
The Baldwin History Room (located in the Baldwin Library) has many resources available for historical and genealogical research. Find out more about the History Room here.
Completed in 1987 by about 30 local volunteers, the Baldwin Windmill is a stunning symbol of the village’s Dutch heritage. Located along Highway 63, it’s known as the “ornament” of Baldwin and a beautiful sight for both residents and visitors.
The windmill’s four giant vanes, powered by a motor, slowly turn through the summer, adding charm to Windmill Park — a great spot to picnic, play, and relax by the creek. The park also features picnic tables and a playground, making it a perfect family-friendly stop.
The windmill was built thanks to community support, including a unique “Adopt-A-Rock” campaign, where locals helped raise funds by sponsoring stones in its foundation.
Don’t forget your camera when you visit this beloved landmark!
The Baldwin Windmill Days Committee is dedicated to creating a vibrant, inclusive community celebration that honors our shared heritage and brings people together. We work to build lasting connections and a stronger community by spotlighting what unites us, supporting local programs, giving back, and continually seeking ways to improve the place we call home.
Windmill Days is the 2nd weekend following Memorial Day each year!
